This year Skoda Auto is supporting three private partners in its revised WRC co-operation, one based in the Czech Republic and the other in Austria and in Belgium. Czech Rally Team Skoda Kopeck?? is based around Czech Champion Jan Kopeck?? and, like First Motorsport Skoda Team, is a single-car private team.
The Red Bull Skoda Team, run by Austrian Raimund Baumschlager, is running two Skoda Fabia WRCs on 10 events in the ���Manufacturer 2��� category of the WRC.
The Rally Spain, round four of the 2006 World Rally Championship and the season���s first true asphalt rally, brought the best individual result for a driver in the Fabia WRC and an overall success story with all four cars completing the rally.
Jan Kopecky/Filip Schovanek (Czech Rally Team Skoda-Kopecky) finished fifth overall to record the Fabia���s best ever overall finish and Jan���s personal best WRC result. Francois Duval/Patrick Pivato (First Motorsport Skoda Team) ended the event just behind in sixth place and, as in Monte Carlo earlier in the season, added a stage win to the Fabia���s roll of honour. Throughout the rally both Jan and Francois were able to compete on an equal level with the 2006 specification WRC cars from Citroen, Ford and Subaru.
Skoda Auto���s registered team in the WRC (Red Bull Skoda Team) ended the event with both drivers scoring points, Gilles and Herve Panizzi finishing 10th and Andrea Aigner/Timo Gottschalk 13th.
The next WRC round for all three teams is in Corsica next month (April 7th/9th).
